talk with / talk to

Is there any difference between the following two sentences?

I didn’t talk with my father when I was a junior high school student because our lifestyles were different.

I didn’t talk to my father when I was a junior high school student because our lifestyles were different.

Thank you in advance.

‘Talk with’ generally refers to extended conversation, and ‘talk to’ is the simple act, short or long. Your first sentence means that he never had extended conversations with his father, and the 2nd sentence means that they never spoke to each other.

I appreciate your clear explanation.
