take somebody for an airing

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

When Dave and Dude take a guy out for an airing the guy very often does not come back.

take somebody for an airing = make away with someone, do someone to death, commonly dragging the victim out of town

Thank you for your efforts.

I would say the expression means ‘take someone out for a walk’ but the implication is he is unlikely to come back because he will be physically attacked or possibly killed.
