  2. He condescended to dine with them since they had no education.
  3. He looked down on them to have dinner since they had no education.
    Please correct them all.
    Do you consider all the above sentences mean the same.

Fathima, I can only say something concerning the bold expression:

If I’m not mistaken, there is the following structure:

—> prevent somebody/something *(from) doing something

  *the preposition is optional

  1. His intellectual snobbery prevented him dining with them since they had no education.
    You cannot use the ‘to’ form.

  2. He condescended to dine with them since they had no education.
    Grammatically okay.

  3. He looked down on them to have dinner since they had no education.

  • doesn’t make sense as written.
    He did not wish to have dinner with them because he looked down on them as they had no education.
    He looked down on them and felt they were not people he wished to have dinner with since they had no education.
