simple past or simple present

Hi, how I can differentiate these sentences are past(simple) or present(simple) ?
I cut the vegetables.
I put my things into bag.

Hi,

You are right if you suggest that you can’t tell whether in your sentences the verb is past or present (into a/the bag). The only way you can tell the difference is from how they (the sentences) are used in a context.

Alan

By saying to the speaker “When?”.

Thanks, Alan.

Molly, Teacher asked to write a Example of past simple form, I wrote ‘I cut the vegetables’.
Then she asked to write a Example of present simple form, I wrote ‘I cut the vegetables’.
Is it clear?

And you were correct in both instances. So what’s the problem? The teacher gave you the “context” in each case, so nobody had a problem distinguishing, did they?
