I was however told I had to pay up before boarding. And of course, after digging for the cash, I was the last to board."
- Should there be a comma before “of”?
- Are commas around “however” optional?
Thanks.
I was however told I had to pay up before boarding. And of course, after digging for the cash, I was the last to board."
Thanks.
However, I was told I had to pay before boarding. And of course, after looking for the money, I was the last to board.
I’d agree with you though Torsten’s version is straight and clear.
As written, I would use commas before and after “however”.
I also agree that placing “however” at the beginning of the sentence is much preferred.
When spoken, there is usually a distinct pause after “However”. This is a clear case for a comma. When spoken, beginning a sentence with “however” is an attention grabber. There may even be a gesture used, such as raising a finger to further grab attention.
