Should it be "second chance" instead?

After learning about a case that was withdrawn because the plaintiff would not testify in court, he asked his daughter the next day to give him a chance and do him a favour that would change his life.
[The defendant is the father. He had molested and raped his daughter on many occasions from when she was 12.]

Should it be “second chance” instead?

Thanks.

I think both would be possible depending on the context and on the author’s interpretation of the term ‘second chance’.
