Should it be “plunging” instead of “plunge”?

The two had briefly buried the hatchet in 2018 to oust the then-ruling Barisan Nasional coalition from power - only to fall out again two years later, bringing an end to the 22-month-old Pakatan Harapan government and plunging Malaysia into a period of instability.
