Should it be 'might' instead and what is the reason?

After consideration, he decided to go ahead of his plan, no matter what major obstacles may appear.

Should it be ‘might’ instead and what is the reason?

Thanks.

I think it should be might which is in tune with decided.

The use of ‘may’ is not incorrect here. By using this verb form you are opening up the situation to what is happening now or is possibly going to happen.

I agree with Alan. It should stay as it is.
