Should creationism be taught in public schools? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
Creationism is one of the theories which try to explain the origin of the humanity and how the universe was created. This theory was inspired in the bible, the God’s word. Because creationism is linked with religious beliefs, this theory is no longer taught in many public schools in the west. However, there are many other relevant reasons which help us to understand why creationism is not a subject in the western schools. The separation between the state and religion is one of them. In the last century, countries like U.S. and England changed their policies towards religion institutions, reducing their power and excluding them in the internal decisions. These states started to control the education system without the interference of the priests, deciding what should and shouldn’t be included in the scholar curriculum. Creationism is involved in an endless conflict with the evolutionary explanation. The evolutionary explanation is the most accepted because it’s based on scientific evidence. More than a theory, evolution is a fact, once it can be proved.
A school was not designed to be a place to people spend their time, but a university of life, where people are taught how to use their intelligence and how to distinguish the truth and false, following a logical method. Creationism has nothing to do with logic, evidence and empiricism. Creationism is based only in ideas that can never be tested or proved. A School is not aimed to provide beliefs, but to share real knowledge. Creationism, in my point of view, is not compatible with the scholar principle.
Creationism shouldn’t be taught in public schools because this theory is based on the belief of some, who argue that everything around us has a creator, whom they consider to be a God. But more than mere ideas, we want facts and evidences that can convince our intellect.
