Sentence: The trees along coast were destroyed as a reult of the cyclone

hi everyone
are the sentences below similar in meaning or different.

"The trees along coast were destroyed as a reult of the cyclone "

“The trees along the coast had been destroyed as a result of the cyclone”

i`m not quite sure if one sentence implies the “event occured recently” and the other implies the “event happend a quite a while ago”

thank you
