Context: I want the images to be displayed on Mac machine, as they display on Windows machines.

Your example is okay, though this may be an improvement:
All images should display on Mac just as they are displayed on Windows OS.

(Fine, because of consistency in using the verb ‘display’ as intransitive)

(With the improvement which, to me, is not necessary, you have used the verb intransitively in the first part and transitively in the second)

The sentence I provided is a perfectly plausible and natural solution to indicate that what should display on mac should have exactly the same appearance as can be seen via a windows display.

There was no problem, grammatically or semantically. It was only a matter of style and consistency! No use looking for a solution in the absence of a problem!
