Self-surviving

Hi

I know this word used as a special term, but I’ve actually failed to find it’s ‘common’ meaning in universal dictionaries.
(And only one of them mentions it, allowing self-surviving be a ‘dictionary word’ in its own right :)).

Could you say, what is the difference (in your understanding) between:

surviving and self-surviving,
survival and self-survival
?

I would suggest the addition of ‘self’ is that you survive or experience survival without the help of anyone else.
