scud (especially of clouds and ships) to move quickly and without stopping in a..

  1. scud ~ (especially of clouds and ships) to move quickly and without stopping in a straight line

  2. scud ~ (especially of clouds and ships) to move quickly in a straight line, and without stopping

Are both ways correct? If so, are they of the same meaning? If so, which one do you prefer?

Thanks

(1) is the most fluent as far as I am concerned. (2) doesn’t quite work.
