Scared vs Feared

Hi all,

I was reading a story from Aesop’s Fables, and here is a quote from the story:

“…the lion and tiger, sharp claws and fangs that make them feared and respected everywhere”

I am not sure if the word “feared” is an adjective or a verb, and if there will be any change in the meaning if I replace the word “feared” with “scared”?

Could you help please?

It is an adjective; here it means ‘causing fear’, and it cannot be replaced by ‘scared’, which means ‘possessing fear’.

Thank you so much for your help, Mister Micawber.
