"rest in bed" or "rest in the bed"

Hi !

Here are two sentences, could you help pick the correct one out please:

  1. when you feel tired, rest in bed.

  2. when you feel tired, rest in the bed.

Hi Kitty,

If you say ‘in the bed’, you are referring to a particular bed. If you say ‘rest in bed’ you are simply telling someone to rest and not get up - stay in bed.
