Questions

People[color=red] speculate about virtuality systems, but we’re already working on it.

Q:

What if the progressive is used instead of the simple present? What would be the difference?

Thanks

“people are speculating” more vividly evokes a picture that the activity is happening at the present time. “people speculate” is vaguer about the timeframe and means more like “this happens (sometime)”.
