question

Would it be correct to use these below, in lieu of unsightly suspended hyphenation?

a 10-15 year prison sentence
Instead of: 10- to 15-year prison sentence

a group of 25-30 year olds
Instead of: a group of 25- to 30-year-olds

5-10 gallon containers
Instead of: 5- to 10-gallon containers

Also,

This look good too?

25-30, 35-40, and 45-50 year old men

Any of those alternatives would be the modern preference, found in most type forms.

Do you prefer version 1 or 2 in each?

What do you mean ‘type forms’? Can they be used in a narrative or news story?

My 1st versions, that is, with justva hyphen. Ah yah.

What do you mean by type forms? Can the examples be used in running text?

Would you use these?

a 10-15 year prison sentence
a group of 25-30 year olds
25-30, 35-40 and 45-50 year old men

a $20-$30 million a year industry
a 15-20% a year increase in sale
a $70,000-$80,000 per year position
a $4-$5 million per quarter loss

Good to all above with punctuation?
