What are some of the qualities of a good parents?(328 words)

It goes without saying that parents have the most profound influence on the development of children. Obviously, good parents produce good children. In my opinion, it requires many factors to become good ones, two most important of which are listed as following.

On the one hand, good parents are those who love children unconditionally. They take care of children from infancy till adulthood in a nurturing way. They will do anything in the world to protect children from harm. If children are in danger, they will definitely go to any lengths to come to children’s rescue, and they can even lay down their own lives for their children’s happiness. In fact, many parents sacrifice their whole lives for the upbringing of children. They have to give up their habits, hobbies, even dreams of lifelong in the hope of bringing their beloved children the best things. And of course, they do these without demanding anything in return.

On the other hand, good parents should be harsh enough and know exactly when it needs to put their emotions aside to teach children right from wrong. In actuality, some parents pamper children by offering them everything they ask for, only because these parents love their children too much. However, they have gradually spoilt their children with their affection, and the children will become naughty in the end. Thus, it is essential for parents to be stern, but not too severe. Good parents know how to set a strict and clear discipline for children to follow such as bedtimes, curfews, housework or that sort of thing. To boot, when children act out in a bad manner, it is parents’ responsibilities to show them that such behaviors are unacceptable, suggest alternatives and punish strictly if necessary.

In a word, being parents is really a difficult task, and becoming good parents is more challenging. It needs great efforts and qualities, including loving children unconditionally without expecting to be repaid and necessary severity.
