Successful companies are led by excellent managers. These have many qualities which have developed over their career. In my opinion, a good manager should have two main characteristics. These are the leadership and the result orientation.

The first characteristic that a successful manager should have is the leadership. This is the ability to get the best from people who surround him. For example, a successful manager is one that gets a full collaboration from his employees. In the business world, Sergio Marchionne represents an executive who has leadership. Through his way of managing the company, he has gained the approval of his employees, which do their best to satisfy his requests.

Leadership is not the only key factor for a manager’s success. In order to achieve, a manager should also be result oriented. One must be effective. For example, shareholders of a business want to have dividends. The manager’s task is to ensure stockholders get positive cash flows. Therefore, he must do all possible actions to achieve this objective. Sergio Marchionne is a manager who is result oriented. In order to satisfy the need of Fiat’s stockholders, he led the price of a stock from eight to twentythree euros.
