present tense/past tense

Hello!
The sentences: 1. I didn’t have breakfast yet this morning.(past simple)
2. I haven’t had breakfast yet this morning.(present perfect simple)
both are correct because it depends on the speaker’s intention. Which intention?
Thank you for your time!

The first tends to be used in AmE but not in BrE. There is no significant difference in ‘intention’.
