Posture of "stand still"

Hello,

I stood very still.

I looked up a dictionary and “stand still” means “to remain motionless”. Then, does it imply that the speaker’s posture is to stand? When I sit in a chair, then can I say like “stand still”? How about “sit still” instead?

Thanks in advance,

Stand still is standing.
You would say sit still if you are sitting.

As a single word standstill can refer to any kind of movement. It can also refer to non-moving progress.

The traffic is at a standstill.
Our progress toward reaching our goal has come to a standstill.
Due to health problems, my studies at college have come to a standstill.
