The professor in the lecture and the reading paragraphs present contradictory views on the group work. The professor in the lecture mentions the disadvantages of the group work and favors individual work, whereas the reading paragraph asserts on the benefits of the group work. The professor in his lecture mentions few points to support his views and weakens the main idea of the reading paragraph which asserts on the benefits of the group work.
First, professor says that a group work which is essential a team work requires more time for decision making, because every one has to agree upon the points being discussed and this mutual agreement process wastes time because there is more negotiation time required. Thus the professor in his lecture weakens the reading paragraph’s assertion that the group work is a quick solution process.
Second, the professor also mentions that the group work is not creative. Because most of the time one or two people in a group dominate the discussions and team does not get many different perspectives leading to a less creative solution. Thus the professor in his lecture casts doubt on the reading paragraph’s statement that the group work is more creative.
Finally, the professor says that the group work can be burdensome on the people in a group. He says that a lazy person in a group may sit back and relax during the group work. But at the end of the project the success will be shared by everyone. This can cause dissatisfaction among the hard working team members. Thus, the professor weakens the reading paragraph’s assertion that the team work can be less burdensome and people may be willing to take more risks.
In conclusion, the professor in his lecture mentions three points, which contradict the reading paragraph’s main idea that the group work can be beneficial.
