It means ‘when I was at home’.

It means where I came from and where my family still lives. Although I don’t live there now, I still consider it “home”.

The phrase is probably a bit folksy.

“I came to Atlanta for a job, but my family is still back home in Alabama.”

It means the place you originally come from. It’s an extremely common phrase in American English and maybe other forms of English. So they are asking about your friends and family that you left behind.

It might be considered asking a question that’s too private in some cultures. But it’s very common in other cultures.
