please help me to understand the means of " back home " following sentence. and what kind of " back " in this sentence

It means ā€˜when I was at homeā€™.

It means where I came from and where my family still lives. Although I donā€™t live there now, I still consider it ā€œhomeā€.

The phrase is probably a bit folksy.

ā€œI came to Atlanta for a job, but my family is still back home in Alabama.ā€

It means the place you originally come from. Itā€™s an extremely common phrase in American English and maybe other forms of English. So they are asking about your friends and family that you left behind.

It might be considered asking a question thatā€™s too private in some cultures. But itā€™s very common in other cultures.
