1 is correct.
1a does not usually require ‘first’ because you have used ‘just’, though it is acceptable.
2 is acceptable
2a should be ‘from’.
3 and 3a are both acceptable.
4 is fluent. 4a is not fluent and the repetition should be avoided. ‘They’ is assumed to mean their vehicle, rather than their bodies. Common sense would indicate that.
