Please clear my doubt. was = is

Hi all,

1)He gave me a pen. His name is Jack.
2)He is the tallest boy in the class.

3)The boy who gave me a pen was called Jack.
4)The boy who gave me a pen was the tallest boy in the class.

I have used ‘was’ instead of ‘is’ after the relative clause.
Does 3 suggest 1 and
4 suggest 2?

No. Use the correct tenses for rewritten
sentences or rewrite them using whose.

Thanks for your time and help.
Thanks very much Bookaholic_English

No prob. Why not try rewriting them now?

I understand very well.
‘was’ suggests ‘at the time of giving’.
It doesn’t change the name of Jack and also still he is the tallest boy.
Thank you
