I understand that ‘What other sports do you play’ is a perfectly idiomatic question. So, what is the difference between ‘what other sports do you do’ vs. ‘what other sports do you play’ if any?

Personally, I would say any noncompetitive non-team sport would be a sport you “do”. It’s sort of like “what do you do for exercise?” You could answer “I play soccer and tennis”, but you would have to say “I do some jogging, swimming, and hiking.” since you can’t really “play jogging”.

Makes perfect sense, many thanks for your explanation, T.J.

Or you could simply leave out ‘do’ altogether and say - I jog, swim, run and so on.
