Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents are the best teachers. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Certainly, I totally agree with the saying that parents are the best teachers, since my parents have taught me lots of things throughout these years. I will explain this statement as follows.
To begin with, my parents have educated me to behave properly, as I was a misbehaved child. They believe that good manners must be learnt from childhood; hence, they always highlight the three must-say phrases: please, thank you and excuse-me. At first, I could not understand or even stand social conventions; however, if it were not for their social lessons, I would become an impolite and anti-social person.
Next, my mom and my dad supported me when I first started studying at primary school. On the one hand, my mom used to hold a dictionary at hand and look for the words that I did not understand. Besides, she often took diagnostic tests to make sure that I had learnt new vocabulary. On the other hand, my dad is an amazing story-teller and he has fostered my passion for reading books.
Another point is that they have been through a lot of tough moments, because they immigrated to another country and started from scratch. They had difficulties in learning a new language and making a living at first. Not only did they deal with discrimination but they also suffered from deceits; however, later they succeeded in opening others’ hearts and minds.
Finally, they have coached me to make decisions on my own and cope with the consequences of my actions. As a matter of fact, they let me make mistakes but they do not tell me off, as they know that my faults speak for themselves.
Summing up, I have learnt a great deal from my parent’s life experiences and I have cherished their encouragement in my studies and my own decisions. So, I definitely believe they are the best teachers ever.
