Hello!

Would you please tell me what the operators verbs are?
I can’t find a correct explanation of them (form, function and examples)

An operator is the first auxiliary verb of a verb phrase-- the one that changes with the person:

He has seen the movie.
I will be leaving soon.
I do not know.

‘Has’, ‘will’ and ‘do’ above are operator verbs.

Operators :

  • Primary auxiliary verbs (be, have, do)
  • Semi-auxiliary verbs (be going to, be able to, have to…)
  • Modals (shall, will, ought, must, should, etc.)
