Not so much as...as/ Please correct a sentence, because I think it's wrong/ Help

Henry VIII restored Mary and Elizabeth in the line of succession in 1546. Not so much out of love for his daughters as more to secure the Tudor dynasty’s future.

I think ‘more’ is redundant so my suggestion is:

Thank you for shedding some light onto this. I’ve heard constructions used like that for example:

  • It wasn’t so much the barking of the dog that offended me as its stench.
    or
  • It wasn’t so much the barking as the stench of the dog that offended me.

Now that we’re at it. Do you think both construction are correct, possible?

I do think that both constructions are ‘correct’ but they still are difficult to understand. The goal of effective communication is to express your thoughts as clearly and simply as possible. So, the real question is: Can you think of alternative ways to express the same idea?
