No company would hire me since I have no experience

Hi, what do you think about using ‘have no experience’ in the following sentence.

Once I finished university, I worked as an English teacher for a year (and for peanuts), while I was looking for a position as an in-house translator. No company would hire me since I have no experience, so I decided to become a freelancer.

Hello, Sir Torsten Daerr.
Is it a true story sir? Excuse me, sir, what is the meaning of “a freelancer”?
Thanks

“No company would hire me since I had no experience, so I decided to become a freelancer.”
(Since it’s a narration of your past, I think the past tense suits better. If the sentence is singled out of context, the original use of have is all right)
