Those people who live close to you or around your neighborhood are your neighbors. They can enrich your life or make you feel like living in hell. Therefore, in order to have a great neighborly relationship, neighbors must be respectful and helpful. These qualities will be explained as follows.
To begin with, considerate neighbors ought to follow some coexistence rules. Firstly, when throwing a party, they should inform you about it. Not only should they turn the noise down, but also they should stop partying at a reasonable time. Secondly, regarding yard work or construction projects, they should do them at an adecuate time in the day. What is more, when borrowing tools and appliances, they should return them promptly and in perfect conditions. Thirdly, they should keep an eye on their dogs and cats, which will probably mess up the surroundings of your property.
On the other hand, polite neighbors ought to regard some basic moral standards, as to exemplify: if they did break some of the above mentioned rules, they would have to apologize and mend it; or, if they had complaints about your misbehavior, they would have to discuss them with you in a civilized manner.
Last but not least, you can count on caring neighbors. Whenever you have an emergency, they will be there to support you. As to illustrate: they will be willing to baby-sit, pet-sit, water your plants, pick up your mails, and the like. Suppose you are really sick, they will call an ambulance. Suppose you are on business and your house is begun on fire, they will call the firemen. Suppose you are on vacation and your house is being broken into, they will call the policemen.
All in all, respect and helpfulness are top qualities of being nice neighbors. Although most of the time you may not be able to choose the people who live around you, you can start becoming a great neighbor, by treating them the same way you would like to be treated.
