Need some help with the English Newsletter - Potatoes!

Dear Alan
I can’t really figure out the meanings of these words they occurred in English Language Newsletter: Potatoes, please explain:

The chip on the shoulder about something?
…because we haven’t had a male champion tennis player since goodness knows how long…?
Something’s been badly chipped down one side?
"You know I’m on a diet and I don’t take chips with anything’?

Thank you very much for your help ^^

Hi,

Let me explain:

The chip on the shoulder about something? To have an inferiority complex
…because we haven’t had a male champion tennis player since goodness knows how long…? We haven’t had a champion for a very, very long time.
Something’s been badly chipped down one side? There is a big piece missing from the side of something
"You know I’m on a diet and I don’t take chips with anything’? I have to be careful what I eat and I don’t eat potato chips with any meal.

Alan
