Move forward a bit.

thanks for solution.

Another question is–
I wanted to see the man.
Here “the man” is the object of verb “see”. correct?

Correct.

I wanted to see the man.
What is the name(compliment, adverb equivalent—) of the underlined part of the above sentence.

I’m not sure. If you get no answer in this thread, please try posting the question in a new thread and hopefully someone will be able to help you.

It is an infinitive phrase object of the verb ‘wanted’.

Alan

If it is an infinitive phrase object of the verb ‘wanted’. Then we can transform it into passive form,
can we? If we can then what is it?

Well, if you really wanted to make that into a passive construction, you would end up with what I would call a bit of a dog’s breakfast - To see the man was wanted by me.

Alan

I am getting difficulty to understand this part “you would end up with what I would call a bit of a dog’s breakfast”.

Could you please explain it for me?

Hi,

Let me put it another way: you would find in the end that you had something that wasn’t very clear, something which was a mixture of different parts that didn’t work together very well. Does that help?

Alan

yes.
And thanks for solution.

Could “joking” be an adverb of manner? Thanks

Hi,

It could be a participle or an adjective but not an adverb. The adverb is ‘jokingly’.
