More and more ... where should I put these?

Hi!

  1. Animals have been used more and more to help people who are mentally ill.
  2. More and more animals have been used to help people who are mentally ill.

Are these both acceptable?
Which one is more prefereable?

Hi,

The two sentences are different in meaning. If we put ‘more and more’ after ‘used’, we indicate that animals are increasingly used …In the second sentence ‘more and more’ qualifies ‘animals’ and indicates that the number of animals is increasing.

But the second is also used with the same meaning of the first in spoken English, Alan.

And to get that meaning in the written form, we can put it like this, right?

More and more, animals have been used to help people who are mentally ill.

The point was about the acceptability of the two sentences provided by Rei and there ain’t no comma in sentence 2.
