What does “Mars-Venus platitudes” means
in the article, in the end of the second last paragrph?

Thank you! :stuck_out_tongue:

This refers to a book, “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus”.

You have to ask the women here what the book said because Venus people usually read that kind of book  although Mars people often write them.

Platitudes are somewhat like cliches. A platitude is something that is often said but has no real merit. My comment about who reads those books might be a platitude.

Is the book someting about horoscope?
My gaudian planet is said to be Mars though I am a woman.

Well, so the author of the arcicle is critical to judge things
by preoccupation about gender which often doesn’t have any real merit or the truth
by refering to the book.

I want to know the details about the contents of the book.
Anyone who have read it?

Hi Phoo

The basic idea of the book is that men and women are so different that it’s as if they come from completely different planets.
Take a look at the write-up about the book on Wikipedia

I haven’t read that book, but I have read one called “Why Men Don’t Listen and Women Can’t Read Maps”.

Hi Amy

Thank you for your info. I’ve just checked Wikipedia.
I read “Why Men Don’t …” too!
It was fun to read though it may be another platitude.

By the way,
I checked the pice of the book in Japan.
It is almost 4,000yen!!! How come it’s soooo expensive!

Hi Phoo

That is expensive! I assume that would be for a hardcover copy of the book. (?) It should be cheaper in paperback. You might be able to find cheap used copies on ebay and/or amazon, for example.
