Make fun with somebody!

Hello everybody

The expression is: make fun of somebody
But if I am not making fun of my friends, I am making fun with them, then? How does the following sound to you?

1- “What were you doing?”
“I was just making fun with Charles.”

Thanks in advance

Tom

Hi Tom

I’m not really sure what type of situation you’re trying to describe.

Assuming both you and Charles were enjoying yourselves and there was no one-sided nastiness going on, then I would say:

“I was just having fun with Charles.”

If you and Charles were being nasty or sarcastic towards a third person (let’s call him Jack), then you could say:

“Charles and I were making fun of Jack.”
