Love Songs

Well the title suffices: what are your favorite love songs? Here are a couple of mine:

“When I See You Smile”
Written by Diane Warren
Performed by Bad English

Sometimes I wonder if I’d ever make it through
Through this world without havin’ you
I just wouldn’t have a clue
Cuz sometimes it seems that this world’s closin’ in on me
And there’s no way of breakin’ free
Then I see you reach for me
Sometimes I wanna give up, wanna give in, I wanna quit the fight
And then I see you baby, and everything’s all right.
Everything’s all right.

When I see you smile, I can face the world, oh
You know I can do anything
When I see you smile, I see a ray of light, oh
I see it shinin’ right through the rain
When I see you smile… baby when I see you smile at me. Oh yeah.

Baby there’s nothin’ in this world that could ever do
What the touch of your hand can do
It’s like nothin’ that I ever knew. Hey.
And when the rain is fallin’ I don’t feel it cuz you’re here with me now
And one look at you baby is all I’ll ever need.
It’s all I’ll ever need

When I see you smile, I can face the world, oh
You know I can do anything
when I see you smile, I see a ray of light, oh
I see it shinin’ right through the rain.
When I see you smile
Baby when I see you smile at me

Sometimes I wanna give up, I wanna give in
I wanna quit the fight
Then one look at you baby, and everything’s all right
Everything’s all right, so right

Guitar solo, key change

Chorus

Baby when I see you smile…
Smile at me.

“Can’t Fight This Feeling”
REO Speedwagon

I can’t fight this feeling any longer
And yet I’m still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show.

I tell myself that I can’t hold out forever
I say there is no reason for my fear
Cuz I feel so secure when we’re together
You give my life direction
You make everything so clear

And even as I wander, I’m keepin’ you in sight
You’re a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter’s night
And I’m getting closer than I ever thought I might.

And I can’t fight this feeling anymore
I’ve forgotten what I started fightin’ for
It’s time to bring this ship in to the shore
And throw away the oars forever.
Cuz I can’t fight this feelin’ anymore
I’ve forgotten what I started fightin’ for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor,
Come crashin’ through your door
Baby I can’t fight this feeling anymore.

My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you
I’ve been runnin’ around in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I’m followin’ you, girl
Cuz you take me to the places that alone I’d never find.

And even as I wander I’m keepin’ you in sight
You’re a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter’s night
And I’m getting closer than I ever thought I might.

And I can’t fight this feelin’ anymore
I’ve forgotten what I started fightin’ for
It’s time to bring this ship in to the shore
And throw away the oars forever.
And I can’t fight this feelin’ anymore
I’ve forgotten what I started fightin’ for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crashin’ through your door
Baby I can’t fight this feelin’ anymore.

Something stupid like I love you by Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman

This one’s more of a friendship song, but it has the feel of a love song… and the quartet is very impressive:

That’s What Friends Are For

Elton John
Gladys Knight
Stevie Wonder
Dionne Warwick

…an '80s classic.

Here’s another one for cuddling with your significant other:

No Place That Far
Sara Evans w/ Vince Gill

I can’t imagine any greater fear
Than wakin’ up without you here
And though the sun would still shine on
My whole world would all be gone
But not for long

If I had to run
If I had to crawl
If I had to swim a hundred rivers
Just to climb a thousand walls
Always know that I would find a way to get to where you are
There’s no place that far.

It wouldn’t matter why we’re apart
Lonely miles or two stubborn hearts
Nothing short of God above
Could turn me away from your love
I need you that much.

If I had to run
If I had to crawl
If I had to swim a hundred rivers
Just to climb a thousand walls
Always know that I would find a way to get to where you are
There’s no place that far

Strings & key change

If I had to run (If I had to run)
If I had to crawl (If I had to crawl)
If I had to swim a hundred rivers
Just to climb a thousand walls
Always know that I would find a way to get to where you are
There’s no place that far.
Baby there’s no place that far.

Only One
Yellowcard

Broken this fragile thing now
And I can’t, I can’t pick up the pieces
And I’ve thrown my words all around
And I can’t, I can’t give you a reason

Something’s breakin’ up, and I give up
I just want to tell you so you know

Here I go
Scream my lungs out to try to get to you
You are my only one
I let go, but there’s just no one who gets me like you do
You are my only, my only one

Made my mistakes, let you down
And I can’t, I can’t hold on for too long
And I’ve run my life in the groundAnd I can’t, I can’t get up when you’re gone

I feel like breakin’ up
And I give up
I won’t walk out until you know

Here I go
Svream my lungs out and try to get to you
You are my only one
I let go, but there’s just no one who gets me like you do
You are my only, my only one

Guitar solo

Here I go, so dishonestly
Leave a note for you, my only one
And I know you can see right through me
So let me go, and you will find someone

Here I go, SCREAM MY LUNGS OUT and try to get to you
You are my only one
I let go, but there’s just no one, no one like you
You are my only, my only one
My only one
My only one
My only one
You are my only, my only one.

Okay, here are some of my songs:

(despair - Wisconsin just lost. F$&@!.)
starting with the 2nd verse.

Everyone said that I would be just fine
Although they knew that my heart was torn in two
“You’ll meet more girls, you’ll have more fun. You, my friend, are free!”
Well it seems that change is kind to everyone but me.

Oh I sit alone watching the sun explode
And i wonder if it’s really gonna end
The lies you told left me without faith or hope
So I guess it’s a little relief

Whoa I sit alone watching the sun explode
And I wonder if it’s really gonna end
All the lies you told left me without faith or hope
So I guess it’s a little relief.
Oh now, a little relief.

That’s What I Am

We all have days when the world turns gray
Your coffee is cold, Guinness tastes like Pabst NA
But what really gets you down is the thought that you’re alone
Oh, now, just close your eyes and dream
And we’ll be close

I’ll be your stars on a cloudy night
When you need love I will hold you tight
If you need to talk, baby just call me
I’ll be your rock when you’re feeling weak
Find your eyes when you can’t see
And when you need a friend
Or a love with no end
That’s what I am

Guitar/humming solo

What really gets you down is the thought that you’re alone
Oh, now, just close your eyes and dream
And we’ll be close.

I’ll be your stars on a cloudy night
When you need love I will hold you tight
If you need to talk, baby just call me
I’ll be your rock when you’re feelin’ weak
Find your eyes when you can’t see
And when you need a friend
Or a love with no end
That’s what I am.

A love with no end…
That’s what I am.

Tom Safford 1999

I’ve Fallen
Tom Safford 1999

You’re an angel when you speak
A beauty when you sleep
A soft rollin’ tide when you come to me
The stars in my sky
You’re the reason why
I can say that I’ve been blessed truly.

The blind can see what you mean to me
It’s no mystery at all
I’m fallin’
And I’ve fallen in love with you.

I’m so far away from home
And I’m tryin’ to cope
Missing you is now such a part of me
I can see your bright blue stare
Feel your soft red hair
But still I need you beside me.

The blind can see what you mean to me
It’s no mystery at all
I’m fallin’
And I’ve fallen in love with you
I’m fallin’
And i’ve fallen in love with youuu.

The Sweetest Girl
Tom Safford 1999

The sweetest girl I ever knew
Was filled with grace and charm
We’d come home after dinner at night
And she’d hold me in her arms.
We sang slow songs together
And frolicked in the pool.
The sweetest girl I ever knew was you.

The prettiest girl I ever knew
Had long, soft chestnut hair
A quick smile and dreamy eyes
She could lose me in her stare
How she’d shine still amazes me
How I loved the way she moved
The prettiest girl I ever saw was you

All this lonely time, I have tried to find someone
To fill her space in my life
But time has made me see
That she’s still so precious to me.

The greatest girl I ever knew
Taught me how to love
I learned a lot about myself
From this angel sent from above
To laugh with me
To cry with me
To share a love so true.
The greatest girl I ever knew was you

The only girl I ever loved was you.

Will You Love Me Then?
Tom Safford 1998

If I were more than just an ordinary man
Could turn the tide or stop the rain
If I were more than just a special friend
Would you need me then?

If I could be the one you loved before
Who stole your heart, the one you adored
If I can take you by the hand and show you heaven
Will you want me then?

Candle light, holdin’ tight, gazin’ eye to eye
Doesn’t mean a thing if your heart’s sayin’ goodbye
In my dreams you tell me that I’m your dream come true.
Why can’t I hear that from you?

If I can touch your heart like no one has
And make the past disappear
If I can show you how to love again
Will you love me then…
Will you love… me then.

Hmmm hmmmmmmmm

Bored, Prez, or just nothing on TV? :stuck_out_tongue:

I Still Do
Tom Safford 1999

Give me a chance again
I won’t let you down again
Give me a chance to make everything right
Or could we at least be friends?

Guess I’ll see youthere in heaven
Where the sky is always blue
And I’ll always have you near me
Cuz my life was colored by you.
So give me a chance to show you I still do.

I was the one who loved you
I was the one who cared
Then when you left, you left me empty and bare
Didn’t you love me too?

At least I’ll see you there in heaven
Where the sky is always blue
And I’ll always have you near me
Because my life was colored by you.
So give me a chance to show you I still do.

Give me a chance again
I won’t let you down again
Give me a chance to show you I still do.

This Time
Tom Safford 1999

I think I finally know what life’s about
Sometimes you lose, sometimes you wear the crown
And the roads we walk can turn and break your heart
Shoulda known how we’d turn out

But you’ll be better, stronger, with someone else this time
While I will be standing here with one emotion
The page is turnin’ and I’m on the other side
And I’ll find a way to let you go this time.

Through this misty rain that floods my heart
It’s not that easy to make a new start
Your smile lit up the night
Now it reminds me of everything I’ve lost

But you’ll be better, stronger, with someone else tonight
While I am standing here with one emotion
The page is turnin’ and I’m on the other side
And I’ll find a way to let you go this time.

Chorus again & fade.

I wrote some 25 songs about that girl. I was hurting – without her, just out of school and alone in Chicago – and I passed much of my free time writing about her. I hope she’s well.

Tiffany

Skrej

Highly buzzed and very sentimental – I’m remembering/missing my college girlfriend and posting some of the songs I wrote about her.

Our initials were both TS

She was TBS and I’m TPS. And I’ve long since gotten over her, but once in a while I still think about her and miss her.

Oops, bit too much beer last night. hehe

It seems those suds must have been deliciously sentimental ones.

Speaking of delicious… What kind of surprised me was that you never got around to posting any love songs about yummy food as well.
.

LOL

Okay, let’s make something up. I’ll do the first verse and chorus.

“I Love You, Food”

Just another awful day at work
Boss man yellin’ at me
And I feel like a jerk
But when noontime rolls around
I head for the vending machine and
It’s time… for some… chow.

I love you, food
Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Late-night snacking don’t make me no sinner
I love you, food
Pizza, spaghetti, cheeseburger and fries
I’ll be eating you till the day I die…
I love you, food.

A Country classic from the mid-90s:

“Don’t Take the Girl”
Tim McGraw

Johnny’s daddy was takin’ him fishin’
When he was eight years old
A little girl came through the front gate
Holdin’ a fishin’ pole
His dad looked down and smiled, said “We can’t leave her behind
Son I know you don’t want her to go
But someday you’ll change your mind.”
And Johnny said,

“Take Jimmy Johnson, take Tommy Thompson
Take my best friend Bo.
Take anybody else you want as long as she don’t go
Take any boy in the world
Daddy please, don’t take the girl.”

Same old boy, same sweet girl, ten years down the road
He held her tight and kissed her lips in
Front of the picture show
Stranger came and pulled a gun
Grabbed her by the arm.
Said, “If you do what I tell you to there
Won’t be any harm.”
And Johnny said,

“Take my money, take my wallet, take my credit cards
Here’s the watch that my grandpa gave me
Take the key to my car.
Mister, give it a whirl
But please, don’t take the girl.”

Same old boy, same sweet girl, five years down the road
There’s gonna be a little one and she
Says it’s time to go.
Doctor says, “The baby’s fine, but you’ll have to leave
'Cause his mama’s fading fast.”
And Johnny hit his knees, and there he prayed,

"Take the very breath you gave me
Tear the heart from my chest
I’ll gladly take her place if you’ll let me
Make this my last request
Take me out of this world
God, please, don’t take the girl.

Johnny’s daddy was takin’ him fishin’
When he was eight years old.
