Listening is more important than speaking when it comes to persuade

At the core of any good dialogue is not the ability to talk louder than another person but rather the ability to listen calmly to diverse perspectives. You can always learn more by listening to other points of view, especially those you disagree with. Spend as much time as possible listening to what other people have to say, even when you are sure of your position. Understanding and appreciating others’ positions is the first step in persuading people to accept yours.

Persuading people is one of the important skills in the model business world which is challenging to master. The reason is, it is difficult to put yourself in other’s shoes. This point of view goes along with Libus Binder’s opinion. He stated that the essence of any quality conversation is the ability to listen to other people. Importantly listening is a key to persuading or change other’s people mind.

Listening is the first step in persuasive. Persuasive is a process to change other people point of view and lead them to act in a different way. In order to do so, we need to understand why that hold that point of view, the reason or motivation lead to those thinking or actions. At that point, the shortest method is listening to what they said.

Listening building the emotional trust and relationship. The listening part contributes to creating the feeling of understanding, appreciating, caring. When we listen to other people’s point of view, they are sharing their thought and they will feel happy because listener cares about them. This is the core to create the personal trust. If the speaker holds that feeling of being understood, they will listen to listener point of view in the same way. Therefore, the possibility they change their mind is higher.

In conclusion, in the conversation, listening and speaking like two badminton players, either of them talks or hit the ball. However, listening plays a key role in persuading because it creates a healthy atmosphere in the conversation and helps you understand the other people point of view.
