It’s a long lane that has no turning…meaning
An unfavourable situation cannot continue, any more than a lane will continue for too long without a bend. The situation will ‘turn’ -it will start to improve
(A lane would be very unusual if it were so long that there was no turning in it - so just as lanes have bends, a run of bad luck will turn.)
