"It" with "infant"

Could you please tell me if we could use the pronoun it with infant and child?

1- When an infant puckers its lips to cry…
2- When a child purses its lips to cry…

Hi Tom

You can use it or its when referring to an infant or baby, but that usage is extremely impersonal.

If you’re speaking to the baby’s mother (or other family member) using it or its to refer to the baby would sound insulting or strange.
