I have seen the title from a page: I Quit: 2+ Years of Anki and the (Near) Impossibility of Learning Languages

It seems weird to me. I know “sort of” is an adverb, but I have seen a verb phrase is used as adverb and collocate with a verb again for the first time. Is it appropriate grammatically?
