“It is easy to welcome innovation and accept new ideas. What most people find difficult, however, is accepting the way these new ideas are put into practice.”

ESSAY:
Innovation means a new way of doing something. This is a basic need for any company or organization to move forward successfully. Without innovative ideas, companies may tend to cease. It also demands creativity. However, not every new idea is innovative. It may lie within the new products as well as the services of any organization. The given statement is not true about welcoming innovation and accepting new ideas. It proves to be difficult for many people to accept new idea and have it implemented right away.

Health insurance in America has been an issue from decades. The health care system in the United States is one of the most expensive in the world. A study in the journal, Health Affairs, concluded that about 47 million people in the United States are uninsured because of high costs. The President of the United States presented a bill to implement healthcare reforms. This innovative idea serves the best interests of the people. It will help most of people in the country to get secure coverage and lead a better, healthier life. The passage of this bill has been a tough pill to swallow for many. It has become law but its full implementation has been spread over a period. It is by 2023 that the full effect of the law will be felt.

Martin Luther king Jr. was an African American activist and prominent leader for the civil rights movement. He raised public consciousness about racial segregation and discrimination through civil disobedience. The event of Montgomery Bus Boycott, 1955 was an example of racial segregation in his life. This boycott lasted for a year and was followed by the King himself. He was arrested during the campaign and situation became tense. This campaign was ended by the US district court to diminish racial segregation in Montgomery public buses. King’s innovative idea was shocking and unacceptable to opponents of progressive ideas of providing civil rights and liberties to all people. Gandhi’s non-violent movement also impressed him, which had used the potent weapon of non violence to free oppressed people in their struggle for justice and human dignity. King’s ideas were met with opposition and barriers created to obstruct the success of his movement. Today his efforts have been appreciated as those of a great civil rights founder. He was awarded the presidential Medal of Freedom and a US national holiday established on his name.
Another example of innovation that has affected people on a large scale has been the converting of muscle power to motor power and then into brainpower. In early 1900s, people got jobs because of their strength and physical fitness. In this case, farmers trudged behind their farm implements over their shoulders. When the industrial age took place of the agrarian age, new machinery were designed like tractors, backhoes, forklifts, cranes and many other devices were designed, that saved time and energy. Unfortunately, this resulted in loss of many jobs; and was not healthy for people and their families. Now the world has leaped from the industrial age into the information age. Most of the work has been taken over by the automated machinery that does not require much labor to operate. The emergence of computer, telecommunication and satellite technology has dramatically changed the way of working and takes only few employees to accomplish the task. While losing a job can be agonizing for workers the overall, change has long-term effects on the economy of the 21st century.

Without innovation, we will be unable to improve the quality of preexisting technologies, laws and legislations, politics and many more. As we know, change is necessary for progress. There is always a need of improvement and acquisition of new ideas. People do find it difficult to accept them at first. Presenting an innovation is a tremendous challenge and its implementation while an excitement for some can be frightening for others. Innovation has the direct effect of creating new jobs and an indirect effect of destroying preexisting jobs. Finally, people do welcome innovation and new ideas. It also affected the people for short time and even takes time to accept but has long-term benefits.
