I’ve just received an email with the following content:

Is this still on the cards, or have we given up on the idea?

Now, what’s interesting about this sentence is the idiom ‘on the cards’ which is new to me and the fact that the writer uses the pronoun ‘us’ rather than ‘you’ which.

So, how often do you use the phrase ‘still on the cards’?

I always thought it was “in the cards” - I think it is a tarot card reference where fortune tellers predict the future by drawing cards.

I looked it up and it turns out ‘on the cards’ is the British version of 'in the cards.
