I have always heard craving used for a specific type of food, such as a pregnant woman craving pickles or someone craving chocolate.

For the general condition I would use something like “I was extremely hungry [or ravenous] every day.” I see that esurient is also a synonym for ravenous, but I’ve only heard that used in Monty Python’s Cheese Shop.

Native American English speaker here: you could say, “I’ve been craving [certain kind of food] every day.” You don’t need the preposition for.
