It is commonly known for the variety of systems to follow when it comes to marriage. However, two of the most well-known situations are marriages decided by the parents and those which people get to select their other half by themselves. In this essay, I will compare the former condition with the latter and discuss their differences.
For quite a few families, the long tradition of arranged marriages is still in practice in this day and age. Parents seek for the perfect partner for their son or daughter to make sure they can live happily for the rest of their lives. To be precise, parents take certain factors such as reputation or wealth into consideration when making such vital decisions for their offsprings. For example, families holding substantial assets may prefer to marry to another wealthy family; families of the same religions and spiritual beliefs marry each other.
On the other hand, however, there are times when two people get to become a happy couple at their own wills. Normally, this kind of situation requires a particular length of time spent together to get to know each other well. Furthermore, unlike marriages decided by the parents, such marriage decided by the children have to be fully responsible for the choice they have made.
To conclude, marriages are institutions that are acknowledged in a vast number of ways, depending on the culture and many other reasons. Nevertheless, there is no certain answer as to state which one is correct or better than the others. It is the pursuit of happiness and joy two single people look for when they get together after all.
