"in a year" vs "in a single year"

hello,
here is the sentence: the previous record in a single year was 582.

can I say ‘in a year’ or’in one year’ here? those three all refer just in 365 days this period but what make them feel different?

thank you for your answers

Hi,

This is just a question of emphasis. ‘In a year’ simply states the period of year. If you include ‘one’ or ‘single’ you are suggesting that this is unusual/surprising with reference to that period of time.
