Impact of mixing

Researchers in Singapore are studying the impact mixing different Covid-19 vaccines, including some not currently under the national vaccination programme, can have on the body’s immune system.

Should it be “impact of mixing” instead of “impact mixing”?

Thanks.

You need the word ‘of’.

I prefer “effects of mixing” rather than “impact of mixing”.

“Researchers in Singapore are studying the impact mixing different Covid-19 vaccines, including some not currently under the national vaccination programme, can have on the body’s immune system.”

I think the original is correct but misleading. Essentially it says:
“Researchers …are studying the impact mixing … can have…”
I would rather see:
“Researchers …are studying the impact that mixing … can have…”.

If you insert “of” you would have:
“Researchers …are studying the impact of mixing … can have…”
This buries “mixing” in a prepositional phrase and so the subject for the last part of the sentence becomes “impact” instead of “mixing”.

Inserting “of” works quite well if you stop the sentence after “programme” or delete “can have”.
