I used to run into her from time to time VS I ran into her from time to time

Hi,

I used to run into her from time to time in the “Trip to Jerusalem”. Could I also say “I ran into her from time to time …”?

Cheerio

It’s not exactly wrong, but in this sentence I prefer the “used to” version.

Is “Trip to Jerusalem” the name of some kind of establishment where people might meet?

Hi Dozy,

My book says that “Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem” is the oldest pub in Great Britain.

Oh, right… I think it does ring a faint bell.

Wikipedia says it is “one of the 20 public houses […] which claim to be the oldest drinking establishment in England [citation needed]”.

Very funny.
