I have not vs. I do not

(North American English) ‘You’ve no intention of coming back?’ ‘I’m quite sorry, but no, I have not.’

Which is North American usage, have not or do not?

For this question, “I have not” sounds more natural to my North American ear. But if the question were “Do you have any intention of coming back?” I would answer “I’m quite sorry, but no, I do not.”

By the way, do you know why English uses “do” so much? Blame it on the Celts! Here’s an interesting article that mentions this point and other aspects that make English so weird: Why is English so weirdly different from other languages? | Aeon Essays
