I do not wish to open windows into men's souls

Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I was reading a biography of Elizabeth I. She said to one of her courtiers: 'My dear and loyal subject, I do not wish to open windows into men’s souls.’ What exactly do you think the underlined sentence means?

Thanks
Alexandro.

Obviously context would excplain clearer, but basically, she has no desire to understand exactly what they are feeling.

I think that’s it Beeesneees, since the context doesn’t make it any clearer either.
